Filing date The filing date is date the date the invention was filed at the United States Patent & Trademark Office and is used as a cutoff date for application of references.

Filing fee A filing fee is required for filing a patent with the United States Patent Office.

Final Office Action After a first office action, an office action in which the examiner is continuing to reject claims.

First Office action A first office action is a document from the United States Patent and Trademark Office citing why the examiner has allowed or rejected the claims of a patent application.

Foreign filing licenses A foreign filing license is required if an applicant wishes to file for patent protection in foreign countries.
